Assistant Project Scientist position in the Neuroscience Research Institute
Anticipated Start Date: October 2020
Salary: Based on UCSB Project Scientist series salary table

Position Description:
The Neuroscience Research Institute invites applications for a part-time (50%) Assistant Project Scientist position in the laboratory of Dr. Dennis Clegg to study retinal cell biology, stem cell biology, cell culture, and xeno-free and animal component-free methods of cell culture and stem cell differentiation into ocular cells, as well as carrying out research related to developing stem cell therapies for retinal disease. The appointee will be expected to make significant, original, and creative contributions to the research project. Additionally, the appointee will be expected to mentor undergraduate students in cell culture, data presentation and experimental design.

Basic qualifications:
A doctoral degree in molecular and cellular biology or related field is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience in work relating to human pluripotent stem cells and differentiation to human retinal pigmented epithelium at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have an extensive and excellent record of 1) research in stem cell therapy related to ocular disease, 2) pedagogy and mentorship, 3) management of team projects and writing multiple reports and 4) communication with outside collaborators.

Initial appointment is for one year, part-time (50%) with benefits. Continuation beyond this period will be based on performance and availability of funding.
