Small Farms Program Manager (Community Education Specialist IV)

Program Manager position open. The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is hiring a Small Farms Program Manager who will support a team of Small Farms Advisors and bilingual Community Educators working in multiple county regions throughout California to expand outreach and extension services to small-scale, diversified, and historically underserved farmers. The Program Manager will coordinate the activities and professional development of Small Farms Community Educators, facilitate external and internal communications across the statewide network, manage grant budgets, prepare and deliver policy communications, lead as a subject matter expert in development of bilingual educational tools and resources, and participate in strategic planning and evaluation of program deliverables and objectives.

Background. The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is expanding extension services for small to medium scale family farms, diversified farming systems, and historically underserved farmers. This program will build on the research and extension services currently offered by UC ANR Small Farms Advisors, assisting farmers through individual farm visits and technical assistance, training and educational materials offered in multiple languages, research on specialty crops and diversified farming systems, improving access to markets and financial assistance, and assisting farmers with regulatory compliance. Efforts will support unique, small-acreage crops such as subtropical fruits and culturally important vegetables and herbs, organic production systems, and alternative marketing efforts such as farmers markets, value-added products, and community-supported agriculture. The team will also partner with nonprofit partner organizations to increase farmer access to training, resources, and research-based information, with the goal of sustaining the economic and environmental viability of small-scale farms in California.

Language considerations. A priority of this program is multi-lingual outreach and educational materials for immigrant and refugee farmers. Candidates with experience working with diverse and underserved communities and/or bilingual proficiency in another language such as Spanish, Hmong, Lao, Chinese, Korean, Cambodian, Iu Mien, or Thai are encouraged to apply.

Location. The Small Farms Program Manager will be located in the Sacramento County UC Cooperative Extension office. While there is potential for flexible, hybrid, and remote work arrangements pending discussion after hire, the successful applicant must live within California and within a commutable distance from the position headquarters.

This position is open until February 7, 2022. Please see the link below to apply:
