Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a full-time Classified position as an Accountant Technician 2 for the University of Nevada, Reno Extension. This position will be located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Under general supervision by the Fiscal Manager, the Accountant Technician 2 will be responsible for day-to-day fiscal operations including review of expense and revenue transactions. This position will prepare invoices, track and reconcile expenditures and revenue, prepare and distribute reports and prepare accounting journals, adjustments and budget revisions on multiple accounts and for multiple types of funding including state appropriated funds, county funds, federal grants and gifts. This position will assist the Fiscal Manager in the preparation of grant and fiscal year budgets and will make recommendations for budget adjustments as needed. This position supervises an Accounting Assistant 3 position.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting. Additionally required is three years of progressively responsible financial records maintenance experience which includes duties such as designing, implementing and interpreting narrative and data reports; applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information; preparing entries to accounts; analyzing assets and liabilities and preparing balance sheets; auditing contracts, vouchers and other documents and preparing summary transaction reports; implementing accounting control procedures; and overseeing the work of accounting clerical staff; OR one year of experience as an Accountant Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting.

A valid Class "C" Nevada driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Preferred Qualifications
Intermediate spreadsheet and word processing software applicable to developing financial reporting and data collection systems, experience in a higher education environment, and/or supervisory experience are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
