THIS IS A TEMPORARY GRANT-FUNDED POSITION FUNDED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30, 2026

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician 2 assists in studying cellular mechanisms in Alzheimer's disease neuronal models.


Responsibilities
  1. Receives training in basic lab techniques (Western blots, qPCR, mouse tail PCR genotyping, microscopy, primary neuronal culture, and transcardiac perfusion/histology), surgical skills in microinjection, and mouse behaviors.
  2. Performs lab inventory purchases and maintains lab inventory records.
  3. Cleans glassware/plasticware and ensures laboratory sanitation.
  4. Maintains lab equipment for experiments.
  5. Maintains multiple lines of mouse colonies (weaning, genotyping, setting up matings).
  6. Prepares primary neuronal cell culture.
  7. Performs calcium imaging experiments in neurons and in established cell models.
  8. Prepares plasmid DNA, clones and transfects cells to establish new cellular models.
  9. Performs experiments in primary neuron cells, takes confocal images and analyses data.
  10. Participates in multiple projects ongoing in PI's lab (e.g., TRPC3 and tau projects).
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biomedical Science, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions on experimental protocols or requests from the PI.
  • Ability to master work schedule to accomplish goals.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
