Position Description
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

About the Department and/or College
The Department of Natural Resources Management includes 17 full-time faculty members that focus on basic and applied ecology of all organisms with the intent to use discovery to better conserve and manage natural resources. There are approximately 300 undergraduate and 77 graduate students currently enrolled. Degrees offered include a B.S. in Natural Resources Management with emphasis areas in Conservation Science, Fisheries Biology, Ranch Management, Range Conservation, or Wildlife Biology, as well as a separate B.S. in Conservation Law Enforcement. The Department also offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Wildlife, Aquatic, and Wildlands Science and Management. The department has a strong record of multidisciplinary teaching and research and houses research staff from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Texas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit of the U. S. Geological Survey.

Major/Essential Functions
The postdoctoral research associate will use a variety of data, morphometric approaches, univariate and multivariate statistics and ecological niche models to conduct original research on the ecomorphology and ecology/evolution of bats. Conduct research related to ecomorphology and ecology/evolution of bats, in particular using morphometric, distribution and environmental data to better understand gradients of biodiversity. Use models to better understand gradients of biodiversity. Present research at professional meetings and publish results in peer reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications
PhD in area of project specialization. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. received within the last 5 years or a graduate student who has successfully completed all requirements for a Ph.D. but has not actually received a diploma. In this situation the applicant must present evidence of completion of the degree requirements accompanied by a statement from the degree granting university documenting the expected date when the degree is to be conferred. Ph.D. with experience with community ecology, biogeography, and macroecology of mammals. The applicant should demonstrate excellent analytical, GIS and publishing skills.

Pay Range
$48,000 - $63,700 - $78,400
