Postdoctoral Researcher in Network Optimization

Description: The department of Operations Research and Engineering Management within the Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University seeks candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in network optimization. The appointment is for two years. The Postdoctoral Fellow will play an active role in developing a new paradigm for the mathematical modeling of network flow. The primary duties will include (i) designing, conducting, and analyzing the results of computational experiments with the new paradigm, (ii) modeling, developing algorithms, and identifying and obtaining benchmarking data from the literature, (iii) manuscript development for peer-reviewed publications, and (iv) assistance with additional sponsored research activities including presentations at academic conferences.

Position Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a Ph. D. (by the time of joining) in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or another related field.
  • Experience in network and discrete optimization. Additionally, experience with optimization modeling for telecommunications and transportation infrastructure planning and operation is beneficial.
  • Experience with (i) one or more general purpose programming language such as Java, C/C++, and Python, and (ii) mathematical optimization software such as AMPL, CPLEX, and Gurobi. Experience with the Linux/Unix operating system is beneficial.
  • Strong motivation to pursue computational aspects of optimization research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.

Salary: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
